EPA Sniff Test

A friend recently pointed out an interesting issue to me. A landfill in County Clare has been issued a non-compliance order from the EPA.

I have no problem with what the EPA are doing and am not a big fan of landfills however I do have a bit of an issue with the way they came to the conclusion there was a problem.

New beds in the garden

lidl-greenhouseOur greenhouse is starting to get a bit crowded so even though it is a bit early we have decided to try moving seedlings outside. We mainly planted out the salad leaves, as we have plenty more of these following, and a few plants that were starting to get too big for the seed trays, such as the peas and sunflowers.

Before and after – part 2

brambles-and-compost For this episode of “before and after” I shall look at the left side of the garden, as you can see from the picture on the left there is quite a lot of brambles and an old compost bin with some very good compost inside (i’m assuming about 7 years of decomposition).

6 new trays of seeds

Once we had moved all the current trays into the new walk-in greenhouse we decided to sow another load of trays including one to go to the princeses mothers garden. We also decided to have another go at snap dragons since the first attempt had no results, this time we did 3 rows in what used to be a refrigirator draw.

Lidl’s Walk-in Greenhouse

As we have not begun construction on our own greenhouse, when we saw Lidl’s offer of a walk-in plastic greenhouse for 39.99 euro it seemed like a perfect solution in the short term.

More snow for Cork

snowy-abandoned-gardenYesterday was another day of snow for Cork. A nice cover of snow was already there to great people at 7am and a further few layers where added up till about 10am. It melted fairly fast but still managed to cause it’s on bit of kaos.

After getting lots of requests we decided we better start showing you some before and after pictures; obviously there is still a lot to do but we are getting there.
