A friend recently pointed out an interesting issue to me. A landfill in County Clare has been issued a non-compliance order from the EPA.
I have no problem with what the EPA are doing and am not a big fan of landfills however I do have a bit of an issue with the way they came to the conclusion there was a problem.
Rather than having some equipment, going on site and checking what was happening and issuing recommendations for improvement they had a member of staff drive around the facility and stick his head outside the window of his car.
Interestingly enough most of Cork’s south side suburbs have had a fly issue for the last month due to “an incident” at the Cork city dump. Should we expect a fly fine?? Maybe the EPA would like a visual report of all the escaped flies? If that’s not enough maybe they can go around with a big net to try and catch them all and bring them back home, to the dump where they belong.
