New Default Plugin – Akismet (Spam Protection)

December 6th, 2008 by Thomas

Due to a bit of excessive spam on one of my blogs and some of the other users of GrowIreland.net i have added the Akismet plugin, as for the “WordPress.com Stats” plugin you will need to register on wordpress.com to get an API key, the same key can be used for both plugins.

Anyhow, when you first come to your admin screen you will see the following message:

click on the link and it will take you to a page that contains the following form:

Add your API key in the form, ticket the option or not depending on your preference and click on “update options”.

The “Akismet Stats” link will then be available from your dashboard.

I hope this plugin helps.

New Default Plugin – Twitter

November 2nd, 2008 by Thomas

Hello, I have added a new plugin that will enable users to add a widget displaying yours or a user of your choice’s twitter activity.

To set it up go to the “Design” tab in the Admin Dashboard, then click on widgets.

One of the widgets is called “Twitter #1“, click add and it will appear on the right hand side where you can view the current widgets in use.

Then click on edit where your new widget has showed up and this will give you a number of options:

Title (what you want the widget to be called on your website)
Username (your username or the one of the person you want to the twitter updates to show on your website)
Number of Links (How many Twitter updates you want displayed)
Show Timestamps (If you want to show time and date of Twitter updates)
Linked (If the content should have links to Twitter)
Discover Hyperlinks
Discover @replies
UTF8 Encode

At the minimum insure you enter the username so that it will be able to retrieve some information.

Hope you enjoy this new plugin and make good use of it.

Keep up the blogging.

New Default Plugin – Shutter Reloaded

October 29th, 2008 by Thomas

This new plugin will be activated by default for all current/new blogs.

In an effort to improve blogs this plugin uses Ajax to display linked pictures by dimming down the main page and displaying the picture in-front.

For people that have blogs setup you will be able to change the settings of this plugins in your Admin dashboard, under the settings tab select  “Shutter Reloaded “.

The first thing you will see are the general options, 5 different ways for “shutter reloaded” to work on your blog.

The default setting will affect all pictures that are linked and automatically display them in-front, if you choose any of the other 4 be sure to read the description carefully to see how it will affect you.

The next section will vary depending on what setting you have chosen to use. In the default case it will give you the option to de-activate “shutter reloaded” for specific posts or pages.

In the last section you will be given the option to customize the color settings and opacity of the picture surroundings when it is shown in-front of the website.

I hope you find this plugin useful, if you have any problems or questions please fell free to add a comment to this post.

Thanks
