Unfortunately due the complete lack of interest of Kilkenny County Council we have missed the opportunity for starting this year. We have however been approached by the Brothers of Charity who have offered us the opportunity to start an allotment in conjunction with some of their service users. We hope to start in the autumn getting ready for next year.

October 31st, 2008 by ciaranOur website, www.christendomgardens.com, went live on Oct 12 and an advertising campaign for prospective allotmenteers was launched. We have had a steady stream of names coming in and a leaflet drop is planned for the coming weeks. We still await a response from Kilkenny County Council. The Waterford Food Producers Network is running a series of lectures for beginners on how to plan and start your kitchen garden, which is very useful for those allotmenteers who have not grown vegetables before.
There is a good mix of interested parties, beginners and experienced gardeners, in the project. We hope to start to set out the site in the coming weeks and be ready for planting in Feb/Mar (weather permitting).

September 29th, 2008 by ciaranThe idea for allotments in Ferrybank came from a submission that was made on the Draft Local Area plan for Ferrybank by the Ferrybank Socio Economic Development Committee. The project was given great impetus following the formation of the Waterford Food Producers Network and the Kilkenny Allotment Association. A representative of CAGA met with Kilkenny County Council to identify a site which could be used for Community Gardens and Allotments.
