Here is an information sheet on potato blight outlining a organic response and some other useful tips. Thanks to Lill Coyne for supplying the information.

At last we have a bit of rain this evening. This should help bring growth on a bit. You can’t beat genuine rainwater!

Development Work Underway
posted by: kellsallotments in Uncategorized on 03 29th, 2010 | | No Comments »

The weather was kind to us at the weekend so we were able to get cracking on the development work. We learned that 23 tonnes of limestone 804 does not go very far when you are building paths.  We probably need another 46 tonnes!!  Well it is a learning exercise.

Plot licences are being issued Tuesday night, so barring snow etc people should be able to get planting  over the Easter break (however the forecast is not good).

These few pics should be able to illustrate our progress better than words.

Got the Keys

Lease is signed, Insurance is approved and now we have the keys to the gate at last!  Getin!!!!

We can now finish of the development work (you can see from earlier in the blog that we did the staking out several weeks ago).   Hopefully we will get the paths made over the weekend then make the plots available for work from Tuesday onwards.

There is a serious danger we may get some actual vegetables planted over the next week. I’ve had enough of the last 18 months of virtual growing.  Hopefully the real thing will taste far better!!!

Watch this space for progress pics!

The Lease/Licence Agreement and Company Set up
posted by: kellsallotments in Uncategorized on 03 16th, 2010 | | No Comments »

I am signing the Lease/Licence Agreement for the 2 acres tonight.  We now just to have to get confirmation from the Town Council insurer’s that our public liability insurance is sufficient then we can get going.

Hopefully not much longer to go  now ( as Spring doesn’t wait!).

We are also in the process of incorporating ourselves as a limited company (with shareholders).  Setting up as a company will give our group and the allotments scheme itself  long-term stability.  This process should be completed later this year.

Special mention to our solicitor, Michael O’Byrne, who’s help and assistance has been invaluable in setting us up as a company and finalising the lease.

We are participating in the Kells St. Patrick’s Day Parade tomorrow. Hopefully this will give us a bit more publicity and give people the opportunity to snap up the last remaining plots.

This the first 100sqm plot we marked out.  We are going to use it as a ’show-plot’, to illustrate the how raised beds could look.

More to follow………..
