Day 1 !!!

Hi all fellow allotmenteers,

Got our new plot, number 124 so if passing say hello to myself Tracey and Jimmy.  The place was a hive of activity today with lots of rotavating going on.  The new area is very wind swept and freezing cold today so good luck to eveyone moving and wrap up well.

Allotment move ….

Well the move is on, if you didn’t get your letter yet, here are the details in brief.

  • Transfer to be completed by 1st March, after this old allotments will be ploughed and planted with trees.
  • JCB & trailer will be available on Monday 22nd Feb & Monday 1st March in order to move heavy materials.  Contact council on 087 1214641 or 01 8905605 to arrrange.
  • The council will help with moving manure heaps, cheds, fruit trees so make contact.
  • Fruit trees can be excavated by the JCB, but the new planting pit must be dug by allotment holder.
  • Sheds to be moved must be dismantled and placed on pallets.  Pallets are available from the council.
  • All allotment holders will have to clear their old plots of fences, sheds, plants etc.   Any materials that you do not wish to transfer (metal, wood, plastics) are to be stacked near a pathway, so that the council can collect these materials and dispose of them.
  • The new scheme has two car parks and it will be expected that all allotment holders use these two car parks.
  • To allow everyone to bring in heavy items to their plot the new scheme will be accessible to cars until March 28th after this the bollards will be locked in place.   After this large deliveries must be arranged with the Parks Division who can unlock the bollards.
  • Please note that the overflow carparks are only recently finished and the grass pavers are not settled so do not drive over them yet.
  • The official allotment opening is SATURDAY 13TH MARCH 2010.
  • Currently opening until 4.30 pm.
  • After 28th March the new allotment scheme will only be accessible to registered allotment holders.  The gates will be locked outside of opening hours.
  • Any queries Hans Visser on 087 1214641 or 01 8605605

Thompson & Morgan seeds

Hi, if anyone else there from Turvey.  Did you know that Thompson & Morgan seed when ordered from Mr. Middleton in Mary Street is £1=€1 www.mrmiddleton.com They also do a special rate for allotment groups so maybe at some stage in the future we might get enough of us to do this….

20th December “Tipperary Turnips”

20th December 2009
20th December 2009

We grew a good bit this year from seed I ordered from Seed Savers.  Not much of it did well except lots of Tipperary Turnips.  I was really looking forward to having some “Balbriggan Brussels Sprouts” for Christmas dinner but ended up with six tiny marbles.  It has been so cold and icy lately we’ve not gone up to see if any new ones have sprouted.  I did give some plants to my neighbouring excellent gardeners so hopefully they have more success.

BRUSSEL SPROUTS

Where are the sprouts!!!!!

Where are the sprouts!!!!!

In the beginning!

allotment-sept-09After many years on “The Waiting List” we got the plot in June 2008… oh what a mess it was (tried to add a picture but file to big) the weeds and grass were to our knees but compared to the hundreds on the list we had a plot. Though we were surprised how many were un-kempt lookingnothing seems to be done about them.  We eventually got the place wired and beds raised and then heard we are to move…..

Hello world!

Hello to all from Turvey Allotments.  Hopefully some of you are out there.  Feel free to keep in touch with eachother thanks to Thomas of Irish Allotments.

All the best,

Tracey (Plot 9, Phase 2)
